Stupid NBC. We were just discussing this in the office the other day. They are starting Friends at 8:59 to thwart their competition. Since you can't manually set times on a Tivo, you can't record whatever it is that is on before an NBC show on another network. I'm recording the TVLand "Before They Were Friends" beforehand and it hasn't complained about a conflict yet, so we'll see.

I've tried, I just don't really think the show is all that funny. Their success rate at making me laugh is about as good as every other sitcom (i.e. not very good).

random aside: I was gonna put a deep and meaningful link in here, but your site software keeps saying:

MT::App::Comments=HASH(0x812e9b0) Use of uninitialized value in sprintf at /usr/local/apache/starjewel/lib/MT/Template/Context.pm line 1187.

Sounds... remarkably stupid. VCR: 1 Tivo: 0
With such an advanced chunk of equipment, one would think that it would have no issues with such trivial notions as time setting or multiple channel recording. Yet another reason why television and the devices that go along with it aren't worth the time and effort :-P

It's only as remarkably stupid as shows like Friends. And starting at 8:59 means you miss a minute of the show. BFD. That doesn't thwart anyone any more than TBS starting 5 minutes making you 'lock-in' to their channel. Seinfeld for 45 minutes would be more along the lines of thwarting. Besides, the show is 22 minutes long, if you download it with BT.

nope, as long as it causes a conflict, the tivo wont record it. even if its a minute conflict.

the only PC i have is my work PC and i won't install BT on it, esp since i work for a DRM company.

did you find that you CAN manually record a channel for the times you specify. IIRC it's 5 minute increments so you can stop the early show at 8:55 or start the late show at 9:00.

They don't do this to screup up pvr's, they do it for ad revenue. they can grab an extra commercial break and bill it at the higher rate.
