It's the simple things in life...

I just did something I haven't been able to in a long time. I stood out on the (covered) deck and watched a thunderstorm roll in towards the valley, and the lightning striking over the hills.

We get plenty of rain, but never thunderstorms where I live. And even if we did, I don't have anywhere to watch them.

Yep. I was recently back in the southeast, walking in the woods with the rumble of far-off thunderstorms and realized that while I don't miss the heat and humidity, there are certain natural phenomena that I wouldn't mind having again.

Sitting on a porch with the cool breezes of an afternoon thundershower while watching the lightning play on a distant ridge sounds mighty appealing...

Running like hell with a loaded pack after a day of hiking down a steep slope off of one of those ridges because we've got an approaching storm, on the other hand...
