So... Chicago...

is fabulous. I have mastered both the L and the Metra. I refuse to deal with parking or driving in an unfamiliar city, and cabs are often unnecessary. Monday I watched the sun set from the Sears tower. Tuesday I tried to see the Art Institute, but apparently they recently changed their late hours from Tues to Thurs. And the Symphony was sold out too, so I walked around Millennium Park instead, and to Navy Pier (sort of).

Tonight, I headed downtown with the intention of seeing a performance at a Jazz Club. I was coming from our Chicago office, and my cabbie got lost. I thought I missed the show, but it turned out they were just on break. During a fabulous jazz ensemble performance, I ended up chatting with the gentleman next to me at the bar. We both decided eating alone on business trips sucked, so we went to get some tasty Chicago deepdish pizza, chatted a good while longer, then parted ways. I'd say I made a new friend, but after his fabulolus company, we didn't exchange information, which kind of made it more fun. Probably sounds like nothing to most people, but I had an adventure :P

Glad you liked Chicago better than I did. I attended a conference there and I stayed in the WORST hotel. But I managed to hook up with some people where at the confernece and ate at a nice restaurant in downtown Chicago.

But I'd take Chicago *ANY* day over downtown Detriot, which ROYALLY sucked!

i've never been to detroit, but i passed through DTW at Christmas and wrote a nice rant here about it. very frustrating airport, as we had to exit security to get to another domestic terminal, then everyone had to go through security *again* just for a transfer. it took me over an hour to do so, and many people were missing flights.

sorry you didn't enjoy chicago, maybe it needs another try :) i was at the marriot ohare. pricey, and not downtown, but right on the blue L line, very nice, comfy, and friendly.

In 2003, I went to a conference (same conference, different venue) in suburban Chicago near O'Hare airport. I liked that area MUCH better than downtown.

I never made it out to the Sears Tower, but if I ever do go back to Chicago, I'll make it a point to go there.

I still have nightmares about Chicago O'Hare...

Adventures are good :-)
