I'm not meant to be here today
No really... my karma is trying to tell me something. It's fairly cold here in the South Bay today. I walked out of my apartment and went *whoomp* to the ground. We're still running the sprinklers at my apartment complex, and the sidewalks had frozen over. After I slowly managed to get up off my butt and survey the damage, I went to talk to the manager's wife/gf/woman who answered his door. I then walked around the apartment sidewalks and to the street to get to the parking lot. What do you know... the street sidewalks are covered in ice too. I was even being careful! This time I hurt my knee good. I gimped myself to the car, and got to work something like an hour after I tried to leave. I told the woman we should put salt on the sidewalks and got a funny look. I guess you can tell I'm from the East Coast, eh? [Edit]: Saturday, the sprinklers are still running, despite the freezing temperatures. The poor plants are covered in ice. The management put up orange cones on the sidewalk to indicate the hazardous conditions, I suppose that's a start. Comments
You can take the girl out of Pittsburgh, but you can't take Pittsburgh out of the girl. I live in Virginia now - but I bought a 50 pound bag of salt for when we do get snow. At least we usually get one or two snows a year - but this year its been so warm, we might not get any this winter. We had a neighbor who had a snow blower, which is pretty darn rare around here. But he was from New York state, so he knows snow too. It would be strange to live in a climate where you don't get snow and ice at least some of the time. I'm used to having four seasons, not one or two. Posted by: Dave P. at January 12, 2007 06:38 PMWow. I can't believe they're just leaving the sprinklers on like that. How odd. They're leaving themselves wide open to be sued, and even in this sue crazy environment, I wouldn't blame anyone who did. I hope you aren't seriously hurt; knee injuries can end up sticking around. Posted by: Joshua Day at January 15, 2007 08:11 PMIf postage on a 50 lb bag of salt wasn't expensive. I would send you a bag for shits and giggles... easy pay back.. cover the land lords car in water.. watch. it will freeze the doors shut.. Posted by: Ed at February 1, 2007 10:23 PM |
