CSA

I got my first CSA box on Friday... yay! (CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture) I'm trying to eat local and in season more often. I didn't quite understand why there were no artichokes available though, since about 95% of the country's artichokes come from Watsonville. The fruit and veggies I got were more ripe and plump than any I've ever gotten at Safeway. Huge bananas, beautiful strawberries, cucumbers, zucchini, green bell peppers, blackberries, and a plentiful bunch of carrots. I'll expand my horizons a bit more as I go, as you can tweak your standing order anytime, as long as it's 48 hours before delivery.

Tomorrow's dinner: stuffed peppers.

Yosemite

Yosemite is absolutely gorgeous... even more breathtaking at sunset. None of my pictures even remotely do it justice.

Welcome to the Bay Area

$765k for a 827 sq ft house in Cupertino. Craziness... welcome to the Bay.

So we saw these billboards on the 101: {first 10-digit prime found in consecutive digits of e}.com

Jon's guess was that they were for IBM. But according to the Google Blog, they are Google recruiting billboards. The answer will lead you to a harder question that I suppose will lead to probable employment. I love Silicon Valley :)

I think Kelly coined the term "clutch-tacular" tonight, for when driving around the hills of SF in a manual. She also introduced us to an excellent ice cream place called "Bombay Ice Cream". I had a scoop of ginger and a scoop of cardamom. Mmmmm.... I couldn't begin to remember how to get back to it, except that it's a few blocks from Good Vibes.

Pier39

Good god. It'd going to be 92 degrees tomorrow.

Jon Kimi Kelly and I went to SF today. Kimi and Kelly shopped in Chinatown while Jon and I walked around Pier39. There's a bunch of sea lions that came to one of the docks after the 1989 earthquake and took it up as home. They are a riot... the bulls battle for territory and just walk on the others sunbathing, and shove each other off the docks. You can see Alcatraz from the pier as well. I want to take a tour one of these days.

As much as I often think my karma is poor, I am definitely blessed with good friends. I got up early and Steve and I took his convertible up for a drive in San Mateo. Now I'm heading down to Monterey with Jon, Kimi, and Kelly. Yay for strawberries and beaches.

Kim and I went to Chinatown in SF earlier, and driving home we saw the thick fog rolling in over the hills. It was like cotton batting lying over the trees, creeping down between. So gorgeous...

Jon, Kim, and I went down to Monterey today to fly kites. Soooo nice. Jon had a stunt kite that rocked once we got it off the ground. I still can't believe I live here; I feel like I'm on vacation.

Weekend

Shad, Kimi and I went to the Winchester Mystery House over the weekend. It's right here in San Jose, so it wasn't even far. We did the mansion tour, and the behind the scenes tour. I took a lot of pictures, but they're not very well organized yet, as I just bundled them into JAlbum. (Note that there are multiple pages, next page link is at the top left.)

If you don't know the story... Sarah Winchester, widow to the president of the Winchester Rifle manufacturer, built a very large Victorian mansion. Legend has it that she was afraid spirits would come after her if she stopped construction. As a result, the mansion is huge and there are staircases that lead to nowhere, doors that open into walls, and doors that open into drops.

Oh, and also. Shad and I went furniture shopping over the weekend, and I bought a bed! My very own pretty and uber-comfortable plush bed. (You have to understand that I've never actually gotten to pick out and buy a bed before.) I got a deal on the bed itself because it won't be delivered until 1-2 weeks after I moved, but the mattress will be delivered the day I move, and that's what counts. And Kimi is full of such wonderful decorating ideas. She's even giving me a bunch of red sari fabric. I'm torn as to whether I should use it for drapes or a comforter, but it's gorgeous.

What else...? Had dinner with a number of iPix/Ebay? people Saturday. Thumper and Funjon are home from Europe/Asia, yay :) And I got to meet Elfi and Pavlov tonight.

It's official. I just purchased a one way plane ticket to San Jose for Feb 29. I have a position at Macrovision. (Yes, that evil company :P)

I am officially in love with this area. We took a drive down the coast to Monterey this afternoon and it's breathtaking. But then, I've never been on the west coast.

My flight to California leaves at 6:30am tomorrow. It's almost 9pm and I haven't even started packing. It's not time to panic until midnight or so.
