Trading Spaces
Trading Spaces was very weak last season. Paige is back, and it's so much better. This is a bit delayed, but I'm catching up on TiVo. I only wish DiscoveryHD would also show the new episodes.

Sopranos finale
Did the ending of the Sopranos finale tick anyone else off? WTH? I won't give any spoilers away, but it was far too abrupt.

I'm watching Veronica Mars and the show's description and title refers to the "morning after pill", while they mention RU-486 about 30x in the episode; This is incredibly misleading. This week's "mystery" is that someone slipped RU-486 to a pregnant girl, and she miscarried. The morning after pill doesn't have any effect if taken after you're been impregnated. From everything I've read, you'd know if you took ru-486, and it's a three pill dose, not one. You wouldn't go to a doctor because of a rash that turns out to be an allergy to the abortion pill. Abortion Pill/RU-486 != Morning After Pill When will the public quit being so misinformed? In fact, you'd think the show's writers would have done some research into their subject matter. WTF?

SNL
In case you missed last night's SNL, it was worth watching. A few of the more amusing skits are already on YouTube, including The Dakota Fanning Show and Body Fusion. The fabulous Drew Barrymore + the adorable Lily Allen makes me a happy girl.

Eddie Izzard and Jeremy Clarkson
Two of my three favorite Brittish men in the same room: Eddie Izzard on Top Gear. (What are the chances I could get them together with Patrick Stewart and die a happy girl?)

DH
My TiVo didn't even recognize that there was an episode of Desperate Housewives on tonight. I have a season pass for all episodes (not just new ones) and it didn't even show up in the Record History as not recorded. I wonder if my TiVo was just being flakey or Comcast had a scheduling blip. [Edit]: Interestingly, it was because of how the episode was named. It was a clip show, so I guess I didn't miss much. There is a discussion here.

Before my TiVo upgraded to the new 7.1 software, I'd been using TiVo Desktop on my laptop to stream mp3s to my entertainment center via the TiVo. For some reason, the new software (TiVo 7.1 as well as TiVo Desktop 2.0) is not playing nicely and my TiVo will not recognize my laptop, nor will the laptop recognize either TiVo in the house. After troubleshooting it for a couple hours today, I had the brilliant idea of trying TiVo desktop on my desktop machine. Both run XP SP2, the firewall rules are the same, and yet... it works. It doesn't much matter, since now I can burn them to DVD from the desktop so they don't suck up HD space on my laptop. So now, I have the first four episodes of this season's Alias to watch on the plane :) Speaking of television... did anyone catch Extreme Houses of Europe" on HGTV today? I am in love with Chillingham Castle. And the butterfly house? Bizarre. I remember seeing a lot of interesting homes as we drove and walked through Surrey.

Have they cancelled Drew Carey's Green Screen Show? There are no upcoming episodes, nor is there much reference to it on thewb.com. Hmm.. one source says they pulled it for the November sweeps, but according to Drew himself, it is cancelled. (Last link not worksafe.)

Eddie is on the Jay Leno Show. He makes me weak in the knees...

TiVo
I'm confused.... ABC has screwed with their lineup to make Desperate Housewives run 9:00-10:01 and Boston Legal 10:01-11:00. My TiVo ToDo List says it will not be recorded because 'program no longer listed in program guide', but if I go into my Season Pass Manager and view Upcoming Episodes, it shows Sunday's episode with a checkmark, meaning it will be recorded. It's also showing a new episode for Desperate Housewives in my ToDo List, and a rerun which it doesn't want to record in my Season Pass Upcoming Episodes. So the mystery is... will my TiVo actually record anything on ABC on Sunday?

Why does Comcast think it's time to change the clocks back? My cable box is now displaying 135am instead of 235am.

The Science Channel had a Mr Wizard marathon last night... there's still a few on this afternoon, too. I watched him all the time as a kid. Since they have the rights to the show, I'm hoping they show more...

!!! Nip/Tuck had me thoroughly creeped out. Holy cow. I won't give away any spoilers for those who didn't see it but plan to. I am thoroughly addicted to this series.

Forgetting that I am in Pacific time, and the debate is on live at 6 and not 9 here, I did not set my TiVo. I attempted to set it remotely, and TiVo.com tells me that the site is down for maintenance and is expected to be back at 10pm PST. Who takes a high visiblity public site down for five hours during the day? I seriously doubt many people remotely set their TiVos at 1am, do it then. I'm just frusrated because this is the second time TiVo.com has been down for maintenance recently when I try to schedule something via the web.

I'm still catching up on TiVo from when I was out of town, and Q is on Charmed, as an elder. I can't see him as any other character other than Q, and as a result, I keep expecting him to blink in and cause some sort of universal trouble.

Brent Spiner guest starring on Enterprise
I quit watching ST:Enterprise a long time ago, save for the guest appearance of Dean Stockwell. A plot line involving the great-great-grandfather of Noonien Soongn definitely interests me.
June 10, 2004
So I've been having this problem with my TiVo locking up and being generally forgetful. It will freeze at a menu and hang, or during playback and dump me out to live tv, or just not respond. I haven't been home before TiVo's customer service closed at 8pm PST to call them. I waited on hold tonight for an hour, for a very nice gentleman to check with his supervisor and come back to tell me that it sounds like my hard drive is dying but they won't replace it until I've logged another call with them. Despite the fact that I told them this has happened repeatedly. He said ideally I should call when it's frozen so we can troubleshoot, but I don't generally watch TV until after 8pm PST. The guy was very helpful, and possibly just a phone monkey, so it's not his fault, but that's an annoying policy. My TiVo is still under it's 90 day free labor warranty, but that's only for another 30 days or so. If that. Bleah.

Stupid NBC. We were just discussing this in the office the other day. They are starting Friends at 8:59 to thwart their competition. Since you can't manually set times on a Tivo, you can't record whatever it is that is on before an NBC show on another network. I'm recording the TVLand "Before They Were Friends" beforehand and it hasn't complained about a conflict yet, so we'll see.

my brain is rotting
i KNEW it! They brought back Hattie, Marlena's look-alike, on Days of Our Lives. They discontinued her plot line ages ago after Stefano was going to use her to stand in as Marlena and destroy the Bradys. I predicted this as soon as they revealed Marlena as the serial killer. But they have revealed that Marlena was actually possessed (again). So now what? My brain hurts. You used to be able to miss weeks of this show and not miss a thing. Help me... my name is Kim and I'm a Days addict.

TiVo update
Jon came over to assist in the setup. We ended up having to string to the landline, because it won't get the most recent firmware update needed for use of the USB wireless adapter. Hopefully it will decide to get it tonight and I can use wireless from now on. I don't pay for the landline, and I didn't even know this jack was active until we tried, so I'd like to not use it on a regular basis or trip over the cable.

Evil Tami has got me watching "The Apprentice". Tonight is 'never before seen footage" and Omarosa says she's from the projects of Youngstown, OH. That's like the asscrack ghetto of the ghetto. My college roommate from hell was from Youngstown. Explains SO much. Though I have to say, Omarosa is pretty much the only professionally dressed female. What are some of those girls thinking?

*pout*
I don't get to see the first two episodes of Sopranos until certain someones get home from London and Singapore because they made me promise to wait for them. Yay for Tivo. Boo for impatience.

Charmed
WTF is this with Charmed and their Magic School? It's right out of Harry Potter, and it really doesn't fit. It's like they needed something to supplement the plot?

Not another...
I mentioned Mister Rogers' death, and then I find out Captain Kangaroo just died too! Bob Keeshan, who also was the first Clarabell on Howdy Doody, died at the age of 76. What is this world coming to... we're left with Barneys and Teletubbies.

Magnum P.I.
In last night's Simpsons, Homer received a DVD set of the first season of Magnum P.I. I was disappointed to learn that it has not actually been released on DVD :( But you can go to Amazon and tell the studio that you want it to be released.

Anyone catch "Simple Life" last night? I was fairly amused. I don't know that it will hold my attention, though, because while Jessica Simpson's stupidity has a slight innocent and naive charm, Paris Hilton just has no manners. She just sat there as Nicole awkwardly thanked their lovely hosts. How can anyone possibly live this deep under a rock? "Walmart? What's that? Do they, like, make walls and stuff?" "What are wells for?"
November 25, 2003
I found out from a discussion thread on Bureau42 that Holly Marie Combs is pregnant, and they're writing it into the script of "Charmed". Since we saw future Wyatt in this week's episode, and some of Chris' motives were revealed, Chris just may end up being Wyatt's brother. Either way, there's going to be another Halliwell child.
November 11, 2003
I just downloaded the "Days of Our Lives" episode where Maggie dies on Halloween from SoapCity, and a police officer told backup to "get to 1313 Mockingbird Lane". I didn't know the Munsters lived in Salem, too! You all probably don't care, but I got a kick out of that.
October 12, 2003
I caught a documentary on PBS earlier
called "Horatio's Drive". It's essentially about the first road trip, and the voice of Horatio is done by Tom Hanks, who has a wonderful voice for such things. Unfortunately, WQED doesn't have any listings for it again for at least a week, so you'll have to wait if you missed it. In the spring of 1903, on a whim and a fifty-dollar bet, Dr. Horatio Nelson Jackson set off from San Francisco in a 20-horsepower Winton touring car hoping to become the first person to cross the United States in the new-fangled "horseless carriage." I was partly interested in it because just last week my great gram was telling me about how her family had a Model T when she was young and how she would help crank-start it. Also, watching a documentary makes me feel less guilty about watching shows like "Charmed" :P

Good lord, what did Alyssa
Good lord, what did Alyssa Milano do to her hair? The bangs were bad, but the pixie look is worse. Then again, maybe it'll grow on me. 2 hour season premiere of Charmed is on tonight *excited* Go ahead, think I'm weird, but I still like it. I'm still convinced Chris will turn out to be Wyatt from the future, but it looks like they may be turning him into the girls' full time white lighter.

I don't normally watch "Frasier"
I don't normally watch "Frasier" but I saw a commercial last night and I just can't resist. This coming Tuesday's episode will feature a guest appearance by Patrick Stewart playing a gay man interested in Frasier Crane. I love love love Patrick Stewart, but he always seems to act gay when he's trying to be funny. i.e. last time he hosted SNL. This should be a howl. [And for the record, he's not gay, as he is married with children and was witnessed by Darren on a flight from London to LA being quite in love and happy with his wife.]

Remember when I thought that
Remember when I thought that Brenda's boobs were bigger? Some thought she was pregnant. Guess she wasn't, because Rachel Griffiths has just now announced a pregnancy. Will be interesting to see if/how it's written into the show as Brenda comforts Nate from Lisa's death.
June 02, 2003
Holy hell. Is it me or did Brenda's boobs get bigger? I don't want to give away any spoilers, so see below for discussion. BTW, Tony rocks for letting me come over and watch Six Feet. I finally got to meet his gf, Joanne. She's also the first of any of his girlfriends I've liked, so this could be bad for him :P And since he lives in Millvale, Silvioni's was on my way home, which is apparently the new EnP. It's EnP+alcohol. I met Kim and Ed there, and Pip bought me a drink.

Yay for the Trogdor reference in Buffy ;) All further Buffy comments will be in the Bureau42 discussion.

Buffy
Next week's Buffy looks like something outta Army of Darkness. "This is my BOOMSTICK!" Someone please explain what happened with Xander (I saw his eye get stabbed but thats it) and why he knocked Dawn unconscious and sped off? I kept flipping to Gilmore Girls.

This made me laugh pretty hard. I'm a big dorky Trekkie, but this guys got some valid and amusing points. And hey, it wouldn't be Trek if there wasn't some cheese.

Wtf? So this species, Vissians, is tri-gendered, and the "cogenitors", or the species that is used only for mating with another couple, only makes up 3% of the population. They go from couple to couple, when a couple wants to have a child. They don't have names or learn to read. So I'd like to know what happens if a couple has a child of the cogenitor gender. They must be disappointed that they can't send the child to school or give it any respect. We learned our moral lesson for the day... ignorance is bliss, and don't meddle in other cultures :P Trip annoys me. Twilight Zone
I usually don't care for the new Twilight Zone, but I am a huge junkie for the old ones. However, tonight is a remake of the classic "Eye of the Beholder", starring Molly Sims. I'm curious... [Update]: The original was good because it was subtle. The remake is being overly dramatic. By the way, while I'm on the subject, they recently released Twilight Zone action figures and one set is from "Eye of the Beholder".

It's Culture Shock Week
on the National Geographic Channel and my cable provider doesn't get that channel. I saw the first half of "Secrets of a Geisha" at Jay's. I've been fascinated with this culture since I read "Memoirs of a Geisha". Actually, all the specials look incredibly fascinating.

Kickass car commercial
Via Kymberlie... this is a very cool Honda commercial. It's British, so if you're an American, you probably haven't seen it on TV.

"and the Teamsters are helping Michael Moore into the trunk of his limo..."
I think that was Steve Martin's best line during the entire Oscars. We were losing it over Moore's speech, and when he got boo'd off the stage... well... we were quite happy. He'll never work in Hollywood again. That's too bad, because I've been anxious to see "Bowling for Columbine". And can someone please explain to me *how* Eminem managed to win an award? I'm not usually into awards shows, but one of our guests has worked in theater and we pretty much didn't have a choice but to watch the awards after "Six Feet Under".

Trigun on Cartoon Network!!
It's coming to Adult Swim! It's listed on their FAQ. Yay :) I got Jay hooked, but then I became poor and couldn't buy any more of the DVDs. Now he can see the rest of the series.

Were you ever wondering...
...What that round pin is that Bill Cosby always wears on his sweater or shirt? I've been watching a lot of reruns on Nick@Nite. I thought it said SB, but according to this, it says SDjr, as tribute to his friend Sammy Davis Jr., who died during the 7th or 8th season. Another random tidbit of Cosby trivia that I just found is that the guy who played Dr. Huxtable's father, Earle Hyman, also did the voice of Panthro in Thundercats, one of my alltime favorite comics and cartoons. More good stuff about Cosby and other nostalgic teevee at Yesterdayland.

James Gandolfini sues HBO to escape a contract that binds him to film a 5th season of Sopranos.
The show wouldn't be the same without Tony Soprano, but then, he partly wants to leave because the original writer, David Chase, wanted to leave, and Sopranos wouldn't be the same with a new writer, either. They are running out of places for the show to go.

Can't wait for Six Feet Under!
Nate to his Mom about his daughter: "Is that the face of God or what?" Between last week's Newsweek, ExtraTV, and the new trailers, I'm getting really antsy. Look below for a few spoilers. |
